Tax

Income tax in Pakistan without the jargon: registration, return filing, and what the FBR expects from individuals and businesses.

What this section covers

Tax causes more anxiety than almost any other part of running a business in Pakistan, and a surprising amount of that anxiety is procedural rather than financial. People are rarely stuck on how much they owe. They are stuck on which registration comes first, what a portal expects them to upload, whose name the account should be in, and what actually happens if a date slips past them.

These articles deal with that machinery. Getting registered and understanding what the National Tax Number is for. Filing a return, and what has to be assembled before the filing itself becomes straightforward. What the Active Taxpayer List is, why it is checked at a bank counter or a property transfer, and what it costs to be outside it. The aim is to explain the sequence and the reasoning, so that the next unfamiliar step is recognisable rather than alarming.

On rates, thresholds and deadlines

Tax rules change, and they change more often than most published guidance is updated. We deliberately avoid building these articles around figures that go stale, because a confidently quoted rate from two years ago is worse than no figure at all. Where a specific rate, threshold or date governs your decision, confirm the current position against the Federal Board of Revenue directly, or ask us and we will check it for your circumstances.

Where this connects to our work

The articles here are general. If you would rather have the position worked out for your own situation, that is what our taxation service does, with income tax return filing and NTN registration handled end to end.
