Filing obligations depend on your income, your assets and your status — for example owning property or a vehicle, or holding certain accounts, can create an obligation even when income is modest. The thresholds are set by the Income Tax Ordinance and change with each Finance Act, so we do not reproduce them here. Send us your situation on WhatsApp and we will tell you whether you are required to file.
The ATL is the list of taxpayers published by the FBR who have filed their return for the relevant tax year. Being on it is what people mean by being a “filer”. Non-filers are generally subject to higher withholding tax rates on a range of transactions. You can check your status on the FBR website.

Yes. Freelancers are generally treated as running a business in their own name and file as sole proprietors. You will need your annual accounts or a summary of receipts, plus your personal expense and asset details.
Late filing can attract penalties and can affect your ATL status. The amounts and the mechanism are set in the Income Tax Ordinance and are revised periodically, so check the current position with the FBR or ask us. If you have already missed a deadline or received a notice, contact us — late is better than not at all.
No. The whole process can be completed remotely by WhatsApp and email. If you prefer to meet, our Rawalpindi office is open by appointment.
Our office is in Rawalpindi, at Office # 1-2, 2nd Floor, Al-Ain Plaza, Airport Link Road. We serve clients across Islamabad and the Twin Cities, and throughout Pakistan. Islamabad is a service area, not a second office — everything can be handled remotely by WhatsApp, email and the FBR IRIS portal, or in person at the Rawalpindi office by appointment.
